What is Black Friday? Why is the day so popular?

How to be a smart shopper

Shopping on Black Friday is not a bad thing. But you need to know how to shop. If you want to make real profits without falling into the trap, here are some strategies for you.

  1. Buy on impulse, not on necessity
Don’t jump at the chance to see a discount. Ask yourself, “Will I need this item in the next six months?” If the answer is “no,” don’t buy it, even if it’s 90 percent off.

2. Check price history
Many unscrupulous merchants raise product prices a week before Black Friday. Then on Black Friday, they discount the increased price and sell it at the previous price. When shopping online, use tools to check ‘price history’. See if the price has actually decreased.

3. Make a list
Before you go to the store or website, decide what you want to buy. Also, promise not to buy anything worth a single rupee outside this list. Going shopping without a list is like going to the ocean without a map or compass; you are more likely to get lost.

4. Set a budget
It is very easy to shop with a credit card, but it is difficult to pay the bill at the end of the month. Decide in advance how much money you will spend. Not a single penny more than that amount.

5. Check the return policy
What should you do if you buy something on impulse and find that it does not look good or does not work? So before buying, check whether there is an opportunity to return or exchange it.
